Partition was a topic that was not discussed in my family while growing up. It was as if this part of our family history was deemed too painful to talk about. It wasn't until I stumbled upon an article as an adult that I realized, “Oh! This is my family’s origin story too.” This discovery prompted me to start asking my parents questions about it, and they began sharing their experiences, perhaps for the first time in a long while. I believe that telling those stories was therapeutic for them in some way because finally, someone was showing interest in a part of their lives that had been buried for so long. I hope future generations continue to seek out their origin lines and share their stories.
